Compare visible field of view

The calculator uses standard perspective geometry; the game still decides which FOV convention its slider displays.

Why the same FOV number can look different

Some games label horizontal FOV, some label vertical FOV, and others keep a fixed reference aspect ratio. That means copying the number alone can produce a different visible result on another game or display.

A wider view adds peripheral information but makes distant targets appear smaller. Use the calculator to understand the conversion, then validate target visibility, motion comfort, weapon model, and performance inside the game.

Three-step check

  1. 01

Confirm how the game labels FOV and which aspect ratio it references.

  2. 02

Convert the value before comparing screenshots or settings.

  3. 03

Test real engagement distances and motion comfort before keeping the change.

Quick answers

FOV calculator FAQ

What is horizontal FOV?+

Horizontal FOV is the angle visible from the left edge of the view to the right edge.

Why does aspect ratio change the conversion?+

A wider or taller frame shows a different portion of the same perspective, so horizontal and vertical angles are linked to display shape.

Will this number match every game?+

Only if the game uses the same FOV convention and perspective assumptions. Confirm the game documentation and test visually.
