Spacing explained
Good spacing is close enough for the intended support and far enough to avoid sharing the same danger. In fighting games it describes control around attack ranges; in shooters it affects trades and utility; in team games it shapes engage and follow-up. The correct distance changes with weapons, abilities, movement and information.
“Keep trade spacing through the doorway without standing in the same utility.”
Why the term matters
Review whether the next player could act on time and whether one threat affected multiple teammates. Distance is useful only in relation to a purpose.
Use it correctly
When you hear Spacing in a broadcast or team call, use the surrounding moment to understand it: who has information, which resources remain and what action comes next. The same word can sound slightly different across games, but a good call should still help a teammate decide.
Competitive language is most useful when it makes the next action clearer. Give the location, timing, or resource state needed to support the term. Avoid using shorthand as a substitute for a complete call when teammates need more information.
